“[The Centre is] an opportunity not to be missed in terms of intensifying the involvement of UL in the life of Limerick city”, he said.
“However, it is essential that it must be a real, substantive engagement and it must be sustainable over time.”
Barry also said that the University would have to focus on developing improved transport links between the city centre and the campus, in order that: “flow of people and ideas between the UL campus and whatever emerges can be maintained”.
According to the UL website, Professor Barry is a graduate of University College Cork where he graduated with a BSc in Mathematical Science and an MSc in Mathematics and Statistics. He later went on to graduate from Yale University with a PhD in Statistics. Professor Barry’s research interests include: Bayesian Statistics; Epidemiology; Semiparametric Estimation; Growth Curves and Applied Statistics in Medicine.
