Student leaders at CIT have claimed that their TD emailing campaign was a resounding success.
The “Email Your TD” campaign saw a total of 83,500 emails dispatched to Irish politicians during a blitz of emails that reportedly gained the attention of more than just a few policymakers.
CITSU President Chris Scanlon told StudentNews.ie that he personally penned over 160 messages to public representatives, 26 of whom replied.
Scanlon attacked the 140 odd non-responders:
“It shows a basic lack of courtesy,” he claimed of the non-repliers.
“It is an absolutely disgrace. Surely this is the least we can expect from a person in such an important position.”
Minister for Justice Alan Shatter, Fianna Fáil Opposition Leader Micheál Martin, and Deputy Michael Healy Rae were among those who Scanlon singled out for having given a decent reply to his message, beseeching their attention on the fees question.
Scanlon thanked the students of CIT for having taken part in the protest, which was organized to coincide with the Union of Students in Ireland’s major protest march on Dublin:
“On behalf of the SU, I wish to thank all the people who took party in the campaign. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed,” he said.
