The British National Party’s controversial figure-head Nick Griffin has been reportedly been given the go-ahead by UCC campus authorities to speak at UCC.
The Government and Politics Society’s auditor Ben English said that the university had promised its co-operation to the ‘fullest extent’ for the debate, now scheduled to take place in February.
Griffin, who has previously faced charges of alleged incitement to hatred, was recently forced to cancel a planned debate at Trinity College Dublin after the college said that it would not be able to guarantee students’ security at the event.

“Basically we’ve outlined the risks, and our analysis of the situation, and the potential threat to the safety of student.”
““Having analysed that, and all the possible implications, we’re happy that the event will proceed as it stands,” English told TheJournal.ie.
The UCC Labour Society has already outlined its opposition to the event, with several others expected to join in a demonstration ahead of the controversial debate.
The debate is due to take place in UCC on February 23rd.
